The Law of Least Effort

In the Winter, our earth shifts toward stillness. The snow gathers, icy roads become slick, and animals transition into hibernation.

As we see this on the outside, naturally, our world on the inside begins to quiet and turn inward. The invitation of our senses shifts like a cocoon, knowing that our work for the year is winding down. The wood is chopped, the leaves are raked, and the earth that we live on is at rest.

For me, the bustling busy streets are soothed by more subtle sounds of snow falling, or the bubbles in the stream by the house I live in.  Nature in her almighty wonder.

We don't tell trees why or how to grow nor the flowers when to bloom. They just do it because it's part of the universal design. This is called the law of least effort. A Universal law equal to the law of gravity, polarity, rhythm, cause and effect, and gender.

Though even in the depth of this, we have to show up.  It’s important to be present. Be conscious. Take action when guided. This is good news. A realization uplifting and quite simple. Life demands action. It is us, who must be the ones to act.

As we transition into the New Year, I encourage you to reflect, however cliche that may be, on how you are growing and learning.

Are you creating more space for peace? Are you creating more time for things you value? Are you being authentic? Are you showing up or caught up in the past?

My challenge for you, dear reader, is to simply slow down as these just may be some of the questions that are worth asking. Perhaps try to apply the law of least effort into your life and see what comes up. Actions can be subtle. I mean how else does a tree reach for the sun?

be gentle, be brave, and trust.
